The Local Government Reform Steering Committee was established to guide and oversee reforms within Malta’s local government sector. Its role is to evaluate existing structures, identify areas for improvement, and recommend strategic measures that enhance efficiency, accountability, citizen participation, and service delivery.

Through consultation with stakeholders and the development of policy recommendations, the Committee supports the ongoing modernisation of local governance, ensuring that Malta’s Local and Regional Councils remain responsive to the evolving needs of communities and aligned with national priorities
